Coral Castle Museum
Coral Castle Museum is about a 15-minute drive from Travelog Inn, up US-1 in Homestead. It’s an hour-long stop at one of Florida’s genuine oddities — more than 1,100 tons of coral rock quarried, carved, and set by one man, working alone, mostly at night.
Between 1923 and 1951, Latvian immigrant Edward Leedskalnin single-handedly built this sculpture garden of megalithic coral blocks — a 9-ton gate that once moved at a finger’s touch, a sundial, rocking chairs of stone — without heavy machinery, and never letting anyone watch him work.
How he did it is still argued about, which is exactly the fun of the visit. The audio and guided tours lean into the mystery and the odd love story behind it (he built it, he said, for the “Sweet Sixteen” who left him). It pairs naturally with Robert Is Here or the Everglades on the same outing.
