Robert Is Here Fruit Stand

Robert Is Here is about a 5-minute drive from Travelog Inn, right on the route to the Everglades entrance — a Florida City institution since 1959, and the answer to “where do we get one of those milkshakes everyone talks about?”

Tropical fruit display at the Robert Is Here fruit stand

It started with a six-year-old named Robert selling his father’s cucumbers at this corner; the hand-painted sign announcing “Robert Is Here” has been the name ever since. Today it’s South Florida’s most famous fruit stand: tropical and exotic fruit you’ve never heard of, local honey and preserves, and the milkshake line that moves faster than it looks.

The classic order is key lime or mango, but half the fun is asking what’s in season — sapodilla, mamey, guanabana — and letting them talk you into something new. Out back there’s a small animal farm the kids will not want to leave.

Tips from our front desk

  • Go on your way to (or from) the Everglades — it’s directly on the SR 9336 route.
  • Key lime is the benchmark shake; mango in summer is the local’s pick.
  • It gets busy mid-day in season; mornings are calmer.
  • They close for a few weeks in early fall after mango season — ask our front desk if you’re visiting in September or October.
